Meet Giles Giles came into AC 1/4/19. CCAC labeled him feral and literally had him scheduled to be euthanized. There was much fear in his eyes, maybe not much socialization, but feral was not what CARE was seeing.
Day one of sitting on his bed in his kennel, back to him, treats tossed to him, and pretty much ignoring him, before I left, he was taking pieces of hotdogs out of my hand, and we progressed each day from there.
You can see in a couple of the pics when the fear is less in his eyes and when it is more pronounced. The more fear was when the noise was greater, or people were coming by his kennel.
After four days of visits and videos and lots of hand feeding, we got him out. There is a bit of confusion in his eyes, but also relief in the freedom ride. The fear is gone.
The first day I went to visit him at Puppy Luv, you can almost see a smile on his face, and he was much more receptive to petting and licking my hands, etc.
He is still scared of loud noises and several people at one time, but we have hired an awesome trainer to help us continue to work with Giles. Dana Van Sickle of Rovercome, LLC is working with him along with my continued visits. Why do we do this? Because Giles life matters too. He was a very frightened dog in a very scary place to him, through no fault of his own, and because of that, he was going to pay with his life,
We as a community have to do better. There are so many like Giles, only wanting love but have never been socialized, have never been truly taken care of, who end up in a shelter, where they react the only way they know how… scared to death. Compassion, caring, and life saving… all lives matter.
