Baxter was hit by a vehicle in the upper part of Cleveland County. A Good Samaritan, trying to help him, grabbed him up in a bear hug. Unbeknownst to the Good Samaritan, Baxter not only had a cracked hip but a broken rear leg, on the other side from the cracked hip. He nipped the gentleman out of shock and pain. The local Animal Services was contacted due to the bite and the dog was taken to our vets office on a Saturday. The local Animal Services was going to put him down and send his head off to test for rabies as no owner was found for the dog. We could not let this happen to this wonderful boy. We stepped up to take him into the rescue and get him whatever vetting he needed. He could not walk with his back legs, only drag them around.
We immediately got him to the wonderful surgeon at Carolina Veterinary Specialists. He had to have a FHO on his hip and a plate and pins in his other leg. You can see from the invoice, this was an expensive surgery but Baxter deserved a chance to get healed.
Baxter was fortunate to have the break in his leg repaired with plates and did not have to have a cast. He has been on restricted walking and will be going back this week to see if he can be released and start to run and play. This boy went through a horrible ordeal but has bounced back like you would not believe.
You can see from the xrays how severe this injury was.
He has come full circle, just check out his photos below.. This is why we do what we do.
